Bass Drum Tuning

What is the bass drum tuning method, muffling technique and head selection for your favorite drummers?

I know what Dave, Virgil and Hamilton have used but what about Vinnie, Novak, Erskine, Hass, Gadd etc. etc?

Vinnie uses a Powerstroke 3 with no falam patch, tuned loose, but not too loose or flappy.

I have a yellow Yamaha Rick Marotta Hipgig with a 16" kick (I'm going to list it on ebay soon.) I tried every head combination there is. Unfortunately due to the collar on the rims I have to use regular tom heads and cannot use bass drum heads ala an EMAD or Superkick.

Right now I have Aquarian single ply coated with muffling stips on both batter and res. side and sounds really good.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">With Sting, Dom is using a genuine calf skin bass drum head that he skinned, cured and tanned off one of his own animals at his ranch in Baltimore. Dom feels that it gives him that authentic 'jazz' tone to match his authentic 'jazz' approach to Sting's authentic 'jazz' double bass.
